SENIOR UNDERWRITER, REAL ESTATE

Job Details

Status: Permanent, full-time

Location: Kelowna or Burnaby BC

Pay Range: Acera’s total compensation offerings are based on pay for performance that recognizes exceptional individual and company performance.  The typical hiring range for this position is from $87,500 - $100,000 CAD annually; the pay offering is based on location and will vary depending on related education, insurance experience, proven knowledge, skills, and internal equity.

 

Job Summary

Residential Real Estate Property Senior Underwriter to maintain and grow multi subscription policies on moderate to complex book within delegated underwriting authorities and the offer and acceptance open market.

 

Essential Job Functions

Primary duties include, but not limited to, the following:

 

Risk analysis and evaluation

  • Knowledgeable in catastrophic exposures and mapping
  • Proficient in analyzing data to identify areas of concern such as loss ratios, accumulation, claims patterns
  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify, and resolve underwriting matters with creative solutions
  • Up-to-date knowledge of property insurance market trends, regulations, and industry best practices
  • Strong understanding of commercial insurance wordings and coverages

Superior negotiation skills that drive desired outcomes

  • Ability to be flexible
  • Maintain a positive attitude and adapt to unexpected challenges during negotiations
  • Ability to adapt to differing negotiation styles such as collaborative, competitive, and compromising based on the situation

Account management

  • Liaison and follow through on all outstanding renewals, terms, conditions, and subjects with Delegated Authorities
  • Arrange and issue submissions, quotations, and endorsements
  • Maintain accurate records of all underwriting decisions

Competencies & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Underwriting required
  • Prior Real Estate experience and asset  
  • University degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • CAIB or CIP designation required (Level II insurance license)
  • Proficient within Underwriting software systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including intermediate Excel skills
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial underwriting principles and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze risk, assess exposures, and make sound underwriting decisions
  • A positive and proactive attitude and Forward-thinking mindset with the ability to anticipate and embrace change
  • Strong adaptability to evolving environments and challenges
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to foster collaboration and client relationships
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
