UNDERWRITER
Acera is looking for an ambitious and detail-oriented Underwriter to join our Personal Lines Underwriting team.

Status: Permanent, Full-Time
Location: Calgary, AB / Edmonton, AB / Kelowna, BC
Job Summary:
The Underwriter is responsible for reviewing Personal Lines new, renewal and endorsement requests primarily focusing on Non-Standard Homeowners, Tenants, Condos and Course of Construction. The Underwriter is responsible for fostering relationships within Acera’s Personal Lines sales team, providing prompt service, and actively participating in growth of profitable business within the underwriting department.
Essential Job Functions:
Duties of an Underwriter may include:
- Analyze Personal Lines requests for new business, endorsement and renewal quotes within applicable service standard timelines.
- Adhere to approved underwriting guidelines and delegated underwriting authority agreements, including referring to Lloyds of London as required.
- Proactively participate in growing our portfolio through strategy and fostering relationships with internal sales teams.
- Participate in learning opportunities and industry events to maintain and grow industry knowledge.
- Participate in regular team meetings and planning sessions.
- Mentor, provide feedback and implement changes regarding daily work processes/procedures.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of forms, wordings and company products.
- Other duties as directed by management.
Competencies and Qualifications:
- Efficiency in the Microsoft office suite; especially excel is required
- 1 – 3 years insurance experience is required, ideally within Personal Lines space
- Strong analytical, assessment and decision-making skills
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Proven organizational and time management skills – motivated self-start with ability to manage/prioritize tasks to balance a busy workload
- Ability to dig deep, ask questions, and solve problems
- Adaptable to change and committed to the continued betterment of processes
- Demonstrates accountability and reliability in the quality and timeliness of work
- Prior knowledge with Personal Insurance wordings is considered an asset
- Experience with insurance management software, including Epic, Lineage, and Policyworks, is considered an asset
- Insurance licensing, CIP or CAIB designation, or working towards is considered an asset
