Job Details:

Status: Full-time, permenant

Location: Kelowna, Burnaby or Calgary

Travel: minimal

Pay Range: Acera’s total compensation offerings are based on pay for performance that recognizes exceptional individual and company performance.  The typical hiring range for this position is from $65,000 - $75,000 CAD annually; the pay offering is based on location and will vary depending on related education, insurance experience, proven knowledge, skills, and internal equity. 

 

Job Summary:

We are currently recruiting for an Insurance Claims Examiner to join our team. Your primary role will be handling of an Acera specific self-insured retention program.

 

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven record of establishing friendly, professional relationships with clients, adjusters, insurers, examiners, lawyers, restoration companies and other vendors with a goal of providing superior service to our clients.  You are required to hold a Level 2 Brokers license with 5+ years of experience in Commercial Insurance claims.  Experience as a claims examiner will be preferred.  This role is based out of our Kelowna office, however candidates in Burnaby or Calgary will be considered.

 

Primary duties include, but are not limited to, the following;

  • Telephone adjust and examine property & liability claims within established authorities.

  • Maintain electronic claims files for each claim.

  • Maintain appropriate reserves via the Claims Log (Excel format).

  • Follow the Claims Process Workflows established.

  • Prepare weekly “dashboard” comparing claims year to date to prior year to date.  Review with Executive Director

  • Month-end accounting & reconciliation for all claim payments made during the month

  • Claims Activity Reports to be prepared up to 4 times per year for presentation to Executive Committee and Finance Officers.

  • Review each claim for potential subrogation opportunities and manage as needed.

  • Maintain abeyance system for appropriate follow-ups with adjusters, contractors and clients.

  • Inform relevant parties of significant developments, large losses, potential denials or disputes with members/insureds.

  • Provide required claims file documentation  as requested, typically within first 30 days of the calendar year.

  • Receive and report LIABILITY, CRIME and EBI claims to appropriate insurers promptly

  • Maintain open communication with Finance Officers and parishes or schools throughout the life of the claim. 

  • Keep clients informed and provide superior client service.

 

Soft Skills and Qualifications

  • Level 2 Broker’s license

  • Well-rounded knowledge of Commercial Lines insurance coverages.

  • Establish friendly, professional relationship with Executive Director and Finance Officers.

  • Develop good working relationships with a network of adjusters, insurer examiners, lawyers, restoration companies and other vendors with a goal of providing superior service to our client.

  • Strong Excel skills

  • Familiarity with Outlook, Word, PowerPoint

  • EPIC/Applied Systems experience helpful but not a necessity

  • Professional, friendly demeanor

  • Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills; comfortable with public speaking.

  • Team player

  • Strong sense of urgency

  • Good organizational skills

  • Ability to travel to annual Finance Officers conference (Western Canada)
