REGIONAL DIRECTOR, FINANCE

 

The Regional Director, Finance is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all financial functions for the Alberta operations of Acera Insurance, a leading Canadian insurance brokerage. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, with indirect (dotted line) reporting to the Regional President, the Director serves as a strategic advisor and operational leader, ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and business performance within the region.

 

This role is ideal for a seasoned finance professional with deep experience in the insurance sector, strong business acumen, and a track record of building high-performing teams and driving results.

 

LOCATION AND STATUS

  • Any Acera office, however Calgary, AB is preferred
  • Full-time, permanent

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Finance Leadership

  • Serve as a financial partner to the Regional President, contributing to business planning, resource allocation and planning for producer and staffing decisions, and strategic investments and initiatives.
  • Align regional financial planning with overall corporate objectives through collaboration with the CFO.
  • Lead the development and execution of the annual budget, forecasts, and long-range financial plans.

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

  • Deliver accurate and timely financial analysis to support decision-making and performance tracking.
  • Monitor financial KPIs and proactively identify areas for improvement in profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor compensation expense as it relates to new hires, replacements and salary change requests to support the business working within their budget or approved business case.
  • Support M&A due diligence, and post-acquisition integration activities within the region.

Accounting, Controls & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with overall company policies.

Operational Support & Team Leadership

  • Coordinate with the national finance operations team to ensure efficient support for the execution of day-to-day finance operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial processes, systems, and reporting tools.
  • Collaborate with operational and finance leadership team to optimize workflows and support key business initiatives, including acquisitions or integrations as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • CPA designation (CA, CMA, or CGA) required.
  • Proficiency in financial systems and tools (e.g., General Ledger/ERP system, Excel, BI tools).
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including 3–5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Insurance brokerage or financial services experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and partner cross-functionally.
