DISABILITY CASE MANAGER (OCCUPATIONAL & NON-OCCUPATIONAL CLAIMS)

 

As a Disability Case Manager, you will be responsible for managing both occupational and non-occupational illness and injury claims. This role requires strong knowledge of disability management practices and the ability to navigate multiple jurisdictions. Your expertise will support positive health outcomes for employees and cost-effective solutions for our clients. You will have the opportunity to work on diverse and complex cases across multiple jurisdictions, and work in a collaborative team environment focused on supporting our clients and their employees.

  • St. Albert preferred, remote available
  • Full-Time

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Minimum 3-5 years in disability case management, including both occupational and non-occupational claims
  • WCB Alberta experience is mandatory, including appeals at both levels. Experience with other provincial boards is an asset
  • Additional experience with non-occupational claims management (STD, LTD, EI etc.) and coordination with insurance providers is preferred
  • High-level knowledge of provincial and federal leave programs and legislation is an asset
  • In-depth understanding of disability management practices, including injury and illness recovery guidelines, treatment procedures, and strategies for safe and timely return to work

 

  • Comfortable working with disability management software and reporting tools
  • Education & Certification:
    • Disability management certification or professional designation strongly preferred or willingness to pursue

 

  • Core competencies:
    • Strong communication and client-care skills
    • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple files
    • Analytical skills interpreting data and identifying trends
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Planner
    • Able to work independently and collaboratively  

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSABILITIES

  • Manage end-to-end disability claims (WCB and non-occupational), including intake, adjudication, documentation, and communication, while ensuring timely and accurate processing
  • Develop and implement Graduated Return-to-Work (GRTW) plans and support modified work programs
  • Review WCB claims and take appropriate action to protect client interests, including managing appeals and pursuing cost containment strategies
  • Pursue timely WCB cost relief and cost transfer requests successfully
  • Strong understanding of disability management principles and the ability to stay current on provincial and federal legislation, including new bills and regulatory changes that affect claim filing, management, and return-to-work processes for both occupational and non-occupational cases
  • Coordinate with insurance carriers and navigate multiple leave programs (STD, LTD, EI, etc.)
  • Communicate effectively with employees, employers, healthcare providers, and insurers
  • Provide clients with strategic disability management advice, including rate impact, legislative considerations, and best practices
  • Track and report on disability management activities, claim activity, costs, and trends; contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Assist with the implementation and optimization of disability management software, including file migration and documentation standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with privacy legislation and organizational standards.
